David Brisben received a degree in sociology from Erskine College (South Carolina). He later completed an MA in Christian Education from Reformed Theological Seminary and an M.Div. from Erskine Theological Seminary. His Ph.D. is from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.
After completing his theological studies, David served in the pastoral ministry at several different churches throughout the southeastern United States. From 1983-1991 he also served, along with his wife Susan, in cross-cultural mission work in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
David teaches courses in Bible, theology, and family studies at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He also serves as the chairperson of the Division of Biblical Studies.
David and his wife, Susan attend the First Presbyterian Church where he on occasion preaches and teaches. Related to their church activity, he and Susan are the leaders of a small group Bible study. David also serves on the advisory board of the Center for Relationship Enrichment.
David and Susan have two children. Their daughter, Julie, is married and lives in Greenville, SC, and their son, Benjamin is a student at Montreat College in western North Carolina. Besides visiting their children, they enjoy many outdoor activities such as hiking, backpacking, horseback riding, and canoeing. David is also an avid fly-fisherman.
