Digital Media Arts
Concentration: Web
Where our other two concentrations are about content creation, our Web concentration is about content delivery.
Starting with the principles of interactivity, students learn about user control, knowing the audience, feedback, user response option and adaptability.
From there we move onto to defining what is the product, how should it work and how should it look. By answering the question: "What is the product?" we determine the goals of the project, who the target audience is and how to organize the project. "How should it work?" defines the navigation, types of interaction and controls and map these onto a storyboard. "How should it look?" is where the style and layout is designed.
Once the students gain a working knowledge of the fundamentals we move on to the three most common media and their constraints. Students learn about the Internet, the World Wide Web, web standards and the compromises required for good web design. Disc-based media is also covered with Interactive Disc Design focusing on ROM titles and DVD Design is an introduction to the concepts and structure of creating the content and authoring an interactive title for DVD-Video.
Included in the concentration is a project management course that introduces the student to the role of the Project Manager and associated duties: managing multiple projects, multiple co-workers, assets, budgets and clients.
