
Commencement
Regalia
Students are to dress appropriately, however, formal dress is not required. Students are not allowed to wear any clothing/items on the outside of their gown other than hoods, stoles, medals or cords. Students are not allowed to alter or modify their cap (mortarboard).
Tassels
Traditional Undergraduate and Professional Studies students will wear their tassel on the right side of the mortarboard and switched to the left side when prompted by President Pollard during the commencement ceremony. Graduate students will wear their tassels on the left side at all times.
Stoles, Medals and Cords
Honors Program stoles and Greek organization cords (Traditional Undergraduate students only), Latin Honors medals and With Distinction tassels (Traditional Undergraduate and Professional Studies students) will be worn during the ceremony. Traditional Undergraduate students will receive their Honors Program stoles and Greek organization cords from the respective director. Students graduating with Latin Honors or With Distinction may stop by the Registrar's Office beginning December 1 to pick up their Latin Honors medals and/or With Distinction tassel. The Professional Studies office will mail Latin Honors medals and With Distinction tassels to Professional Studies students the week of December 1, 2009.
Hoods (Graduate students only)
Graduate students will carry their hoods over their right shoulder during the processional. Dr. Richard Ellis, Dean of Graduate and Professional Studies, will place the hood each graduate student during the ceremony.
