General FAQs

Q: When do your classes begin?
A: John Brown University has several start dates to choose from for each program. Contact your professional studies representative to see when the next group begins in your area.

Q: When I complete my bachelor’s, will I be eligible for JBU’s master’s programs?
A: You should have most of the requirements needed to enter into JBU’s master’s programs in business.

Q: How long do the classes meet?
A:  Classes meet for four hours at night from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. 

Q: How long are the degree completion programs?
A:  OM - 18 months - 1 night per week
OM/HCA - 18 months - 1 to 2 nights per week
BIS - 21 months - 1 night per week
EDC - 24 months - 2 nights per week, occasional Saturdays followed by a full-time 12-week internship.
 
Q: What if I don't meet some of the entrance requirements?
A:  There is an appeal process that you can go through that consists of writing a letter addressing the requirement that you don't meet and also getting two reference forms completed. Talk to your professional studies representative for detailed information.
 
Q: How can I build up hours to be able to come into the program?
A:  We offer electives that meet either on Wednesday or Friday night, or Saturday mornings. Students can also take CLEP or DANTES exams, or take courses from a regionally accredited college or university. DANTES are not accepted for the Education program.
 
Q: Will I have to take additional hours outside of the program above my 60 hours to start?
A:  You need 124 total hours to graduate with a Bachelors degree.  Our OM and BIS programs are 48 semester credit hours, our OM/HCA program is 55 semester credit hours, and our EDC program is 62 hours.  Depending on how many transferable hours you have, you may need to complete additional hours prior to entering or while you are in the program.

Q: What types of credit does JBU’s Advance Program accept?
A: We accept credits from regionally accredited institutions, approved DANTES credit, and it is possible that you may receive credit for other prior learning experiences. Be sure to speak with your professional studies representative regarding any credit for prior learning you may have acquired.

Q: Can I transfer credits into the major requirements?
A: In some cases, you may be able to transfer in equivalent courses for our major requirements. Please talk with your professional studies representative to determine if you have any courses that will replace any major requirements.

Q: Where do I buy books?
A: Course books and materials can be purchased at registration.

Financial Aid FAQs

Q: Does JBU offer any scholarships for the Degree Completion programs?
A:  There are currently no institutional scholarships available for the Advance program. We encourage you to check with your employer, church, social clubs, etc. for outside scholarships to assist you.

Q: Is there any other aid in addition to scholarships?
A: There are several student loans that are available to adult students. Contact the Professional Studies Financial Aid Specialist for more information.

Q: Will I be considered a full-time or part-time student while in the Advance Program?
A: Students that are enrolled in the Advance Program are considered to be full-time, making them eligible for the full award of financial aid. If you have transferred hours into the major requirements, you will need to consult with the Professional Studies Financial Aid Specialist to determine whether you will be considered a full-time or part-time student.
