2002 European Art Tour - Paris, France
In June of 2002 Mr. Peer and Mr. Andrus, along with their families, led a group of 10 students on a trip to Paris for two weeks. This was the first of what we hope will prove to be many years of European Art Tours.
During our two weeks we visited The Louvre, The MusÈe d Orsay, The MusÈe Rodin, The Picasso Museum, The Pompidou Center, L' Orangerie, National Museum of Modern Art, Industrial Creation Center. Giverny, Salvadore Dali Museum, Van Gogh's home, Versailles, and Chateau Chantilly. We toured Notre Dame, Chartes, Ste-Chapelle, SacrÈ Coeur, the Deportation Memorial, the Shakespeare Bookstore, the Archeological Crypt, the Eiffel Tower (including a trip to the top!), the Luxembourg Gardens, the Pompidou Center, the Arc de Triomphe, Champs ElysÈes, and even the Renault museum.
We took boat rides on the Seine, a evening bus tour of the major sites in the city, took lots of crowded metro (subway) rides, walked and walked and walked. We stayed in a wonderful little hotel near Rue Cler which is a great little shopping area. We ate in restaurants every meal and usually didn't finish dinner till close to 10:00pm.
All in all it was a great inaugural trip. The weather was great, the food was great, the art was great and the students and faculty and families really bonded as a group.
