REGISTER FOR TRYOUTS

Participation Requirements:

  • Proof of medical insurance and signed Medical Authorization and Release Form (Must be received by noon on Tuesday, September 4, 2012)
  • Try-out Application (Must be received by noon on Tuesday, September 4, 2012)
  • Attendance at try-outs on Friday, September 7

Try-out Purpose:

  • The main purpose of the try-out process is to fill 1-5 spots on the JBU Cheer Squad. We are looking for students who demonstrate, first and foremost, a desire for personal and spiritual growth, as well as teach-ability and spirit, proper technique, effective communication skills, cheerleading experience and poise, academic commitment, and a drive for team excellence.

Ladies’ Required Elements:
There will be five categories in which participants will be judged:

  1. Over-all Cheer Technique: You will be judged on motions, voice, ability to lead crowd, etc. as you perform:
    • Individual chant-Bring your own chant using JBU lingo (Eagles, Blue, Gold)
  2. Stunting: A stunting clinic will be held on Friday evening during tryouts (Ladies will be expected to fly or base or back-spot group stunts)
  3. Dance: (Minimum four 8-counts)- Bring your own music on cd & a dance ready to perform before the judges
  4. Tumbling Round-off back handspring is the minimum skill to achieve excellence in this category
  5. Jumps: You must do three jumps: Toe touch, pike, herkie, hurdler, double toe, etc.

In order to make the squad, you must show excellence in Over-all Cheer Technique and meet the required point total in three of the other four categories.

Men’s Required Elements:
There will be four categories in which participants will be judged:

  1. Over-all Cheer Technique: You will be judged on motions, voice, ability to lead crowd, etc. as you perform:
    • Individual chant-Bring your own chant using JBU lingo (Eagles, Blue, Gold)
  2. Jumps: You will be expected to do two jumps: toe touch, pike or hurdler
  3. Stunting: Male leaders will be expected to perform or quickly learn partner walk-up stunts and/or toss up stunts
  4. Tumbling: Round-off back handspring is the minimum skill to achieve excellence in this category

In order to make the squad, you must show excellence in Over-all Cheer Technique and meet the required point total in two of the other three categories.

What to Wear

Men: Black or royal blue shorts with white t-shirt or polo style shirt. White ankle socks and athletic shoes.
Ladies: Black or royal blue shorts* with white t-shirt (no tank tops). White ankle socks and athletic shoes. Hair pulled back in secure ponytail with bow or ribbon. NO jewelry/fake nails.

*Note: If shorts are loose, please wear bloomers/boy shorts underneath.
