JBU Swimmers Gain Two More NAIA Nationals Qualifications
Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 29, 2004) — The JBU swim teams competed in the Henderson State University Invitational on November 19th-20th. The women’s team scored 251 points to finish 4th in the competition while the men’s team totaled 242 points to place 5th. Ouachita Baptist won the women’s competition with 379 points and Henderson State won the men’s meet with 383 points.
The meet saw two more NAIA Nationals Qualifications. Mariah Rose earned a spot in Nationals with a 1:05.37 swim in the 100 backstroke. The men’s 200 freestyle relay, made up of Richard Bartels, Michael Blees, Tyler Cook and Josh Hughes, also earned a spot with a 1:35.81 time.
Coach Harris commented on the meet saying, “This meet marked the end of our peak week in yardage, so all swimmers were remarkably tired from the tough week of training. I believe this is what caused our losses to previously conquered teams. We did, however, pull out some impressive swims in both individual and relay events, out-touching our opponents at the last second and holding them off when challenged.”
