Drovers Steal One from Golden Eagles
Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 1, 2008) — A costly JBU mistake late in the match allowed Science and Arts of Okla. to sneak away with a 1-0 win over the Golden Eagles on Wednesday afternoon.
“This was a well contested match and it was enjoyable for the fans,” said assistant coach Aaron Tucker. “But you have to give credit to USAO. They took advantage of our missed opportunities as was able to capitalize on one small error on our part.”
The small error referred to occurred in the 69th minute when USAO player Niall Crick attempted a shot on goal. JBU keeper Spencer Watson scrambled to get his hand on it while several USAO players piled in the box for the rebound. After Watson saved the first shot attempt, the ball caromed off his hands to the foot of USAO’s Sam Shaddick who tapped it in for the score.
Both teams were evenly matched up throughout the game. JBU (5-3) attempted 14 shots to 12 from USAO (8-0). Both teams attempted five shots on goal.
For USAO, keeper Ricardo Moreira picked up fives saves, while Watson gathered four for JBU.
JBU won’t have long to dwell on the loss as they prepare to take on SAC opponent Oklahoma Christian on the road on Saturday at 3 p.m. Oklahoma Christian is currently 3-3-2.
