Women’s Soccer Falls to OBU
Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 8, 2008) — The JBU women’s soccer team lost 4-1 to Oklahoma Baptist during quarterfinal action of the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday afternoon. JBU was the No. 3 seed and OBU played as the No. 6 seed.
OBU put the first point on the scoreboard after an own goal by JBU in the 60th minute. Then in the 69th, senior Rachel Gerdin scored the equalizer off the penalty kick after a foul in the box.
From there it was all OBU as they scored three goals in the final fifteen minutes to shut the door on JBU. Courtney Anderson scored in the 74th, Juanita Francis scored off a rebound in the 84th, and Lin Yan sealed the deal in the 88th after scoring unassisted.
With no regional tournament this year the winner of the conference tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament. Therefore, the women’s hopes of making it to the national tournament ended with the loss. They close out the year with a 12-5-1 record overall and 8-1-1 record in conference play.
