Men Fall in New Year's Thriller
Oklahoma City (January 1, 2011) — Despite a strong effort on Saturday evening, the JBU men’s basketball team gave up a 71-66 decision to Mid-America Christian (Okla.) in Sooner Athletic Conference action at the Gaulke Activity Center in Oklahoma City. The loss drops the men to 10-3 overall and 2-3 in the SAC.
Three JBU players finished in double digits led by senior Andrius Mikutis and junior Adrian Miller with 11 each. Sophomore Coleson Rakestraw added 10 points.
Mikutis, who returned to action since being sidelined with a leg injury in early November, scored all 11 of his points in the first half, propelling him into the 1,000 point club at JBU.
MACU (7-4, 3-2) was led by John Shodipo with 26 points.
With two minutes remaining in the game, JBU found themselves down by 10 points. The Golden Eagles wouldn’t go away though and managed to put together a final run and make it a two-point game with less than a minute remaining after sophomore EJ McWoods and Rakestraw managed to hit clutch three pointers.
In the final 30 seconds, MACU managed to hold JBU off while converting from the foul line to hold on for the win.
For the game, JBU went 45.9 percent (28-of-61) from the floor but struggled from long distance only canning 16.7 percent (4-of-24). MACU, meanwhile, shot 42.9 percent (27-of-63) from the floor including 46.7 percent (7-of-15) from three. JBU got crushed on the glass 48-32 but forced 16 turnovers while committing only 13.
Up next, the men return home to face 21st ranked Oklahoma City on Monday at 8 p.m. in Bill George Arena. Admission is free with the donation of a canned good.
