Cross country competes in Chili Pepper Festival

John Brown University's Cross Country teams competed in the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival in Fayetteville, Ark. on Saturday afternoon.
For the men's team, freshman Marcos Gutierrez finished first for JBU in the 10K run and 201st overall out of 288 runners with a time of 34:19:8. Sophomore Tekste Gebreslasse directly followed Gutierrez finishing second for JBU and 202nd overall with a time of 34:20:7. Junior Kyle Schmidt had a time of 35:00:4, placing 231st overall and finishing third for JBU. The JBU men’s team finished 30th overall out of 32 teams total.
On the women's team, freshman Kari Miller finished first for JBU in the 6K run and 212th overall out of 296 runners with a time of 24:40:1. Sophomore Valerie Kliewer placed second for JBU finishing 219th with a time of 24:49:7. Coming in third for JBU, sophomore Melissa Roth had a time of 24:51:4 and finished 221st overall. The JBU women’s team finished 32nd overall out of 34 teams total.
Next, cross country will be competing in the 5K/8K NAIA Mid States Classic in Winfield, Kan. on Saturday, October 21.
