The Founder's Vision
John E. Brown Sr. envisioned the Cathedral of the Ozarks as a
tribute to the beauty of God’s creation and as a memorial to the JBU students, faculty, and staff lost during WWII.
In the founder’s original designs for the Cathedral and its sister buildings, they were to be protected from the elements by sealing the concrete blocks in limestone taken from the university’s own quarry in Sulphur Springs, AR.
However, by the time that the three buildings had been raised, there were no funds available to finish the exteriors of the Cathedral Group buildings.
“I see a very beautiful picture of the Cathedral of the Ozarks, once a dream and now a glorious reality. I see many rooms crowded with activities. I stand here and see a vision that grows."
