John E. Brown Jr. Golden Eagle Endowed Scholarship
Donor: Douglas Chamberlain
This scholarship is in memory of John E. Brown Jr. who gave a lifetime of service to JBU and country, including his term as president from 1948-1979. John succeeded his father as president of JBU in 1948, when he was just 26, making him, like his father the youngest university president in America. During his tenure as president, John encouraged high academic standards, leading to JBU’s accreditation by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools in 1962. John also was responsible for the introduction of intercollegiate athletics at JBU and was a lifetime fan of JBU Golden Eagle basketball, rarely missing home games.
Doug Chamberlain created this scholarship to honor John E. Brown Jr. While a student at JBU, Doug was a men’s intercollegiate basketball player and a Student Body President. He graduated from JBU in 1964 with a B.S. in Education. Doug could not have attended John Brown University without his athletic scholarship. John Brown University changed his life forever, and this scholarship is intended to give other male athletes that opportunity.
