Friends and family
Friends and family members created the Dick and Barbara McCartney Endowed Scholarship to express their appreciation for the many years of service which Dick and Barbara gave to John Brown University. Dick graduated from JBU in 1947 with a B.A. in Bible. He worked at KUOA radio station during World War II after many students had left to serve in the war. Barbara came to JBU in the mid 1930’s when her father accepted a teaching position in auto mechanics. Her family has had four generations on the JBU campus. She met Dick at JBU, they married and they have three children. Later, Dick earned a degree from Southwestern Baptist Seminary. Dick was a member of the Alumni Board and the Board of Trustees for JBU for many years. JBU awarded a Doctorate of Humane Letters to Dick in 1967.
