Raymond Sloan, a long-time friend and supporter of the university, passed away in April 1990 after battling cancer for several months.  Sloan served 35 years as vice president of Carter Oil Company, an affiliate of Exxon.  For 32 years he also was the owner-operator of the Diamond Bar T Ranch of Fraser, Colorado, Raymond was known and loved by many associated with JBU as the husband of JBU alumna and 1988 Homecoming Honor Guard honoree Beverly Meador Sloan.  The Honor Guard award is given to alumni who serve and support the mission and goals of JBU.  Throughout their lives, the Sloans invested themselves in other people.  While raising two adopted children, Beverly spent hundreds of hours as a volunteer with severely handicapped children and in geriatric wards.

Raymond gave of himself not only to his wife but also to her alma mater.  Several years ago, the Sloans gave significantly to make the JBU Cathedral Carillon Project possible.  In 1985, they established the Beverly Meador Sloan Scholarship Trust, which presently supports about 165 students studying at JBU.
