Marion F. Snider Endowed Scholarship
Donor: Estate of Marion Clinton Schaefer
Marion Clinton Schaefer, the uncle of Marion F. Snider, created this scholarship in Mr. Snider’s honor. After graduating from JBU in 1940 with a B.A. in business and accounting, Marion Snider accepted the position of JBU business manager which was offered to him by John Brown Sr., which he held for 45 years. In his time working at JBU, over 3,000 degrees were conferred, nearly 250 teachers hired and eight buildings were built. After serving JBU longer than any previous employee, Snider retired in June 1985, ending his work as Vice President for Business Affairs, a title only he had held until that point at JBU. For the Business Office and for the University, Snider’s retirement meant more than just the loss of a qualified and experienced business person. It meant the end of an era. In speaking of Snider’s attitude toward his work, his successor Pat Gustavson said that he was always anxious to improve operations in whatever way possible. Flexibility and willingness to accept change were his keys to success.
