Jimmy Whitaker Leadership Endowed Scholarship

Jimmy Whitaker, who was from the Ozarks area, loved to regale people with stories of growing up in Missouri like walking muddy roads to school, working hard at harvest time, and crossing fields and creeks to visit his grandmother. Jimmy worked his way through JBU and Jimmy married Jerry Baker in 1940, the year she graduated from JBU. They had two sons, Bill and Charles. Jerry preceded him in death in 1989. After his first wife died, he married Laverne Whitaker.
Jimmy Whitaker served as a Marine sergeant major during World War II in the Pacific. He served on the Board of Directors for the North Texas Water District and on the Farmersville City Council and he was an active deacon at First Baptist Church in Farmersville, Texas. He was the owner for many years of Cello Wrap Printing Corporation in Farmersville, Texas which printed the lettering and artwork on Mrs. Baird's Bread and other similar products. Jimmy passed away in 2006.
