Charles Willis Endowed Scholarship
Donor: Building Construction and Construction Management Alumni
This scholarship was created to honor Charles Willis, a former JBU faculty member who taught in the Engineering department. Charles first came to JBU as a freshman in 1938. One of his first projects was a bridge path he and his graduating class built as their gift to the school in 1942. Within a few years, Willis was supervising the furniture shop at JBU, producing some beautiful pieces of furniture and church pews. In 1954, he received a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Arkansas and joined the JBU faculty. Charles was head of the department of Building Construction for over 30 years. Over the years, Charles recalled the inspiration he received from John Brown Sr. The verses the Founder chose for the building construction program became Willis’ own life verses. “According to the grace of God which was given to me as a wise master builder I laid a foundation and another is building upon it.” Charles retired from JBU in 1986.
