International and MK Packing List

What to bring from home:

  • Bible
  • Clothing (summer and winter)
  • Shoes (boots, sandals, dress shoes, etc.)
  • Toiletries (hairbrush, toothbrush, etc.)
  • Mementos (photographs, cards from friends and family, small items from your home country)
  • Telephone (NOT 2.4 GHz cordless phone)

What to buy in the US:

  • Bedding (regular twin fitted sheets, pillow and pillowcase, light blanket for summer, heavy blanket or comforter for winter)
  • Laundry detergent
  • Laundry hamper for dirty laundry
  • Towels
  • Shower supplies (shampoo, soap, shower caddy, etc.)
  • Lamp
  • Quarters for laundry machine (available on-campus from the Cashier's office)
  • School supplies (pens, pencils, tape, notebooks, staples, scissors, calendar, etc.)
  • Backpack

Optional items to bring or coordinate with your roommate:

  • Carpet (depending on your room assignment)
  • Room decorations (posters, artwork) and sticky-tack or Command 3M hooks for hanging items
  • Shower shoes
  • Plates, bowls, cups, and utensils
  • A mug (highly recommended)
  • Mini-refrigerator
  • Pots and pans (available in most dorms)
  • VCR/DVD player
  • Television
  • Computer
  • Comfortable chair or couch
  • Bicycle

What NOT to bring:

  • Microwave
  • Hot plates
  • Candles
  • Incense
  • Toasters
  • Halogen lamps
  • 2.4 GHz cordless phone
  • Alcohol/drug related items
  • Posters of questionable content

Items included in your room:

  • Twin size bed
  • Desk and chair
  • Overhead lights (older dorms may have fewer lights)
  • Full-length mirror
  • Closet and drawers for storage
  • Sink (in some rooms)
  • Trash can for recycling
  • Blinds for the window
