Communication
Communication of a tornado warning can be relayed to all campus personnel by several means:
- Siloam Springs Emergency Warning Sirens. These sirens will sound a three minute warning blast from locations throughout the city when a tornado warning has been issued and the city may be in danger. These sirens will direct all campus persons to seek shelter immediately.
- JBU has implemented a Crisis Alert System that gives administration and security staff the ability to reach all students, faculty, and staff with time-sensitive information during unforeseen events or emergencies using voice, e-mail, and text messaging. In order to update your information log into EagleNET and visit "CAS Registration" in the resources menu.
- There are several web sites on the internet that can be accessed so people can be informed of severe weather that may occur in the area. Some of these are: wx.com, noaa.gov, and weather.com.
- Local radio stations notify listeners of tornado warnings, but this method of notification should only be depended on when other means are not available.
- Campus Safety officers are trained as severe weather spotters and can identify severe weather conditions, including possible tornado activity. Responders may inform campus emergency personnel of the possible threat of a tornado.

Emergency shelter areas have been designated in each building on campus. Each occupant should be familiar with the building shelter areas. Building evacuation plans are posted in common areas in all buildings on campus.

All persons should kneel down or squat on the floor and place their
arms over their head and neck area to protect them from possible
flying debris. Heavy desks or furniture can be used to crawl under
for extra protection. All persons should remain in the shelters
until the "all-clear" signal has been given or until instructed
by building monitor. This "all-clear" signal is a 45 second
blast on the city emergency warning siren.
