About

Why is the Bachelor of Music Education degree so valuable at JBU?  Because it prepares teachers who can provide lasting music experiences. Whether students want to teach elementary music, be choral directors, or perhaps teach music at the collegiate level, the Music Department can help with their preparation. The Music Department and the Education Division work together to ensure students have the necessary skills for future careers in teaching. The Cathedral Choir performs annually at the Candlelight service

The music and teacher education course-work is designed to prepare students for music certification preschool through twelfth grade employed as choral and music teachers.  Classes like educational psychology, human growth and development, conducting, public school music methods and more, help students gain an understanding of real classroom experience and teaching methods.

Students will find themselves actively engaged in some element of performance through taking part in choral ensembles and music theatre productions, attending music workshops off campus and observing or teaching lessons in the local school systems.

Students will spend a semester as interns teaching music in elementary and secondary public schools, providing the practical experience that will help them confidently enter their career.
