Joe McTaggart ’11 loves meeting new people, which is just what majoring in outdoor leadership ministries has enabled him to do. “I’ve been able to get to know several great people outside of JBU,” Joe said.
The outdoor leadership ministries major is specifically designed for those who want to prepare themselves for vocational ministry through the use of the outdoors.
Classes cover outdoor living skills, wilderness first response and more, in order to train students in the use of wilderness expeditions, challenge courses, experiential initiatives and camp settings. Students are also exposed to a broad range of topics concerning education theory, counseling, developmental issues and family dynamics.
Courses are designed to equip students with sound judgment, appropriate technical ability and effective teaching competence to create safe outdoor learning environments in which to nurture spiritual formation.
Along with this extensive system of training, they are given the opportunity to acquire and develop their skills through involvement with numerous organizations and internships within the area and around the world.
