Biology

Position

John Brown University seeks a faculty member in Biology to begin August 1, 2009. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to teaching, advising, and service on university committees. There may be opportunities to involve undergraduate students in research projects. The successful applicant will have expertise in Microbiology and the ability to teach at least one course in that area. Additionally, the ability to teach Biology for non-science majors and courses in Plant Biology and/or Ecology is preferred. The candidate should be able to clearly articulate the integration of the Christian faith and science.

Program

The Department of Biology offers courses that emphasize fundamental principles related to living organisms and provide opportunities to develop laboratory skills. It maintains a leadership position in the university’s Pre-Health Professions Program and is involved with the Au Sable Institute for Environmental Studies. The Department of Biology is housed within the Division of Natural Science in the William H. Bell Science Hall, which opened in 2003. The Division offers Bachelor of Science Degrees in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, environmental science, sports medicine, exercise studies, and math.

Qualifications

Doctorate in one of the Biological Sciences preferred, masters required.  Effective teaching experience in higher education, evidence of scholarly potential, and a commitment to Christian higher education is essential. A passion for teaching and spiritual formation within the evangelical tradition is required.

Salary

A competitive salary and rank exist which will be commensurate with training and/or experience.
