Early Childhood Education

Position

John Brown University seeks a faculty member for Early Childhood Education to begin August 1, 2009. Responsibilities include but are not limited to teaching undergraduate students and field supervision for teacher candidates preparing for careers in early childhood education.

Program

The Division of Education prepares students for early childhood, middle and secondary teaching in public or private schools. The Division is committed to preparing competent teachers to work with all learners in a multicultural society. All programs are approved by the Arkansas State Department of Education and are accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

Qualifications

Doctorate preferred, master’s required, with appropriate teaching experience in the primary grades with licensure in early childhood and minimum experience of ten or more years in the primary grades. Training and experience in literacy and in literacy instruction are essential. Preference will be given to candidates with recent experience in preschool/kindergarten/primary grades. Effective teaching experience, evidence of scholarly potential, and a passion for teaching and spiritual formation within the evangelical tradition is essential. Candidates should also be willing to contribute to university life in areas such as academic advising, recruiting for the major, and committee service.

Salary

A competitive salary exists which will be commensurate with training and/or experience.

Position begins August 1, 2009. Search process begins October 15, 2008, and continues until the position is filled.
