History
Position
John Brown University seeks a faculty member of history to begin August 1, 2009.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to teaching Western Civilization Survey courses, upper and lower-level courses in the major, and contributing to a growing program. Candidates with specialties in ancient or medieval history are invited to apply. Ability to teach Middle East or Asian history is an advantage.
Program
The Department of History is housed within the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences. In addition to educating its own majors, the department plays a vital role in the pre-law program, the social studies education program, and the university’s Core Curriculum. The department values academic rigor, Christian thinking, vibrant teaching, and scholarly inquiry.
Qualifications
An M.A. is required; an earned doctorate is preferred. Effective teaching experience, evidence of scholarly potential, and a passion for teaching and spiritual formation within the evangelical tradition is essential. Candidates should also be willing to contribute to university life in areas such as academic advising, recruiting for the major, and committee service.
Salary
Salary is competitive and commensurate with training and/or experience.
