Spanish Language
Position
John Brown University seeks a faculty member in Spanish to teach undergraduate students beginning August 1, 2009. Responsibilities include teaching all levels of Spanish language courses and classes in Latin American Culture, organizing a Spanish language conversation hour, and attending meetings of the foreign language honors society.
Program
The Department of Language Studies offers a major in Spanish and minors in French, Spanish, and Linguistics. Spanish majors are required to spend a semester in Seville, Spain. Courses in Latin and German are taught regularly. Technology is used extensively to implement a proficiency-based pedagogy. Language Studies is a member of the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences.
Qualifications
An earned doctorate in Latin American literature or history is preferred. A master’s degree will be considered. Experience living in a Spanish-speaking country is important. Effective teaching experience, evidence of scholarly potential, and a passion for teaching and spiritual formation within the evangelical tradition is essential. Candidates should also be willing to contribute to university life in areas such as academic advising, recruiting for the major, and committee service.
Salary
The salary is competitive and will be commensurate with training and/or experience.
