Journalism

Position

John Brown University seeks a full-time faculty member with expertise in traditional or “convergence” journalism. Responsibilities include but are not limited to teaching undergraduate students in courses ranging from news writing, reporting and editing to magazine writing and introductory public relations courses. The position also involves advising JBU’s award-winning college newspaper, The Threefold Advocate, and developing a complementary online edition.

Program

The Department of Communication offers four degree programs leading to the Bachelor of Science in broadcasting, journalism, public relations and the Bachelor of Arts in communication studies.

Qualifications

An earned doctorate is preferred; MS, MJ, or MA in journalism accepted. Professional journalism experience is required. Candidates with expertise in both traditional and “convergence” journalism preferred. Candidates should be willing to advise journalism and public relations majors, and to contribute to curricular revisions that will best prepare students for work in the changing journalism industry.

Effective teaching experience, evidence of scholarly potential, and a passion for teaching and spiritual formation within the evangelical tradition is essential. Candidates should also be willing to contribute to university life in areas such as academic advising, recruiting for the major, and committee service.
 

Salary

A competitive salary exists which will be commensurate with training and/or experience.

Position begins August 1, 2010. Screening process begins November 15, 2009, and continues until the position is filled.
