JBU Hosts Official Kick-Off of Women’s Soccer
Siloam Springs, Ark (September 16, 2002) — John Brown University will host an official kick-off for Golden Eagle women’s soccer at the first home game, Thursday, Sept. 19 at 4 p.m. This inaugural women’s home game, which will be played at Alumni Field on the JBU campus, will be preceded by a brief ceremony to celebrate the beginning of women’s soccer at JBU.
The ceremony will commence at 3:45 with a ceremonial kick-off by JBU President Lee Balzer. Also assisting in the ceremony will be team co-captains Stephanie St. Clair and Christie Smeal and head coach Joe Thoma and assistant coach Bill Birnie.
“Women’s soccer has been a dream at JBU for many years, and we’re excited to see this dream become a reality during our inaugural season,” said Coach Thoma. “We are looking forward to building a quality women’s soccer program at John Brown University.”
With a record of 3-0 this season, the Golden Eagles women’s soccer team is already well on its way to building that quality team. Their first three games against MidAmerica Nazarene University, Oklahoma Wesleyan University and Tabor College, were all shutouts. Thursday’s game against Bacone College at Alumni Field will be the first home game for the Golden Eagles women’s soccer team.
