JBU Women Beat Lubbock Christian 59-48
Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 15, 2002) — Victory was sweet for the John Brown University women’s basketball team, beating Lubbock Christian University 59-48 on Valentine’s Day.
Both teams had 11 conference losses going into the game, but it was LCU that left with 12. JBU now owns an 11-14 season record, and with its second conference win in three games JBU is 3-11 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
JBU didn’t just score from the free-throw line in the first half. It lived on the line, scoring 17 of its 34 first half points on freebies. In the second half, JBU held on to its lead and let its front court players wear down LCU.
Senior forward Sophie Voordeckers, coming off the bench, and junior post Katie Elliot carried JBU throughout the game. Voordeckers led the team in scoring with 17 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked five LCU shots. Elliot scored 15 points and pulled in a team high 15 rebounds.
Up next for the JBU women is Wayland Baptist, 6-8 in SAC play, at home on Saturday.
