Can we have more time?
(February 20, 2004) — (Little Rock-AP) -- Lawyers are asking special masters in the Lake View school-funding case to delay a hearing at least a month. The hearing was scheduled to start Monday but lawyers for the Lake View School District and others say the state has not provided key documents they need. Lake View is the school district that challenged the state's method of funding its public schools. The court filing says the state has failed to break down how money will be distributed under a funding formula passed last month. The lawyers said they requested the breakdown so special masters can judge whether the new laws are constitutional. The old funding structure was ruled constitutional by the state Supreme Court in 2002.
