JBU Men’s Tennis Wins One, Loses One

Siloam Springs, Ark. (March 3, 2004) — On Tuesday afternoon in Searcy on the Harding University tennis courts, the Golden Eagle men were defeated by Harding University 9-0 and beat Lyon College 6-3.

In the Harding match, JBU was unable to break into the win column but did have 3 good matches with the home team. Tim Miller took Stephen Price of Harding to 3 sets with scores of 2-6, 7-6 and 5-7 before falling to defeat and JBU’s Bobby Rojas and Ryan Roberts of Harding had to play 3 sets to determine the outcome before Harding’s Roberts bested Rojas 5-7, 6-3, and 6-1. The doubles team of Miller and Rojas played an outstanding match against the No. 1 doubles team of Ivan Rodriquez and Gabriel Diaz of Harding, but were unable to come away with a win, falling 4-8.

Following the Harding match, JBU took on Lyon College. Individual winners for JBU were Sam van Aswegen over Jonathan Bunch 6-0 and 6-1, Rojas over Ryan Thornton 6-1 and 6-2, Chad Weaver defeating Cody Cox 6-3 and 6-0 and Mike Dill besting Michael Dicken 6-4 and 6-1. Doubles winners for the Golden Eagles were Kevin Coleman and van Aswegen defeating Bunch and Thornton 8-0 and the team of Weaver and Dill topping Cox and Ben Pearson 8-3.

JBU moves to 3-4 for the season and will play Oklahoma Christian University, the defending NAIA national champions, on Thursday afternoon in Oklahoma City.
