Masters continue testimony

(March 8, 2004) — (Little Rock-AP) -- Court-appointed special masters overseeing the state's efforts to reform its failing public school system have hearings scheduled this week. Former justices Brad Jesson and David Newbern want to hear from interim Education epartment director Tom Courtway. In an order seeking Courtway's testimony, they said they want to ask him about teacher salaries and how they compare with surrounding states. Also, the masters said they want to know the status of reforms adopted by the Legislature.
