Peirano Selected to Play in Umbro Select All-Star Classic
Siloam Springs, Ark (February 1, 2002) — Leo Peirano, senior NAIA All-American soccer player from John Brown University, has been selected to play in the Seventh Annual Umbro Select All-Star Classic in Fort Lauderdale Feb. 7-10.
The Umbro Select Classic is a showcase for soccer players hoping to be drafted into the professional ranks. Pro scouts will be in attendance at each game, and many of the players at the Classic will be drafted to begin play at the pro level.
Nearly 100 of the top seniors from colleges around the United States have been invited to participate in the classic, which will take place Feb. 7-10. In addition to the collegiate players, there will be 27 participants from the Professional Development League (PDL), in which Peirano played last summer for the Indiana Invaders. Four teams will be formed (North-South-East-West) from all the players present in Fort Lauderdale and each team will play two games during the classic.
Peirano is one of only 3 collegiate players selected for the Classic from a USL (United Soccer League) Select team that recently toured Portugal playing against some of the top Second Division B Portuguese squads. Leo’s soccer career at John Brown University and in the USL both contributed to his invitation to play in the Umbro Classic.
John Brown University is a private university with an enrollment of over 1,600 students from 45 states and 33 countries. JBU is a member of the Arkansas Independent Colleges and Universities as well as the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities.
