Health officials prepare for West Nile season

(April 26, 2004) — (Little Rock-AP) -- State health officials are preparing for the emergence of the West Nile Virus as the mosquito breeding season approaches. Experts say there's no way to tell how seriously West Nile will strike, but if rainy weather continues it could create ideal conditions for proliferation of mosquitoes that spread West Nile. Arkansas had a relatively mild West Nile season last year, with 26 human infections and no deaths related to the illness.
