Arkansans disagree with court and lawmakers on education
(April 28, 2004) — (Little Rock-AP) -- A poll from Arkansas State University shows that 39 percent of Arkansans disagree with a ruling that the old method of public school funding was unconstitutional. The poll released yesterday found that just over a quarter of Arkansans agree with the Lake View ruling. That decision from the Arkansas Supreme Court said Arkansas's school-funding system was inadequate, unfair and unconstitutional. Results also show that 51-point-one percent of Arkansans either disagree or strongly disagree with the Legislature's plan to consolidate school districts with fewer than 350 students. A-S-U's Center for Social Research polled 418 Arkansans. The results have a margin of error of plus or minus four-point-eight percentage points.
