(May 6, 2004) - (Little Rock-AP) -- President Bush is expected to make a decision by Friday about whether to give federal money to 16 Arkansas counties damaged by recent flooding. Governor Mike Huckabee requested the assistance yesterday for damage to public property and individual homes from storms that began April 19th. Federal Emergency Management Administration teams estimated the state needs eight million dollars to fix public property and less than 500-thousand dollars for individual homes. Of 169 homes affected by the floods, 16 homes were heavily destroyed. Huckabee's request asks Bush to consider that the state has spent more than one-point-four million dollars of its own money for individual disaster victims since July 2003.
