(May 7, 2004) - (Little Rock-AP) -- University of Arkansas athletic director Frank Broyles acknowledged yesterday that he repeated a racial slur in 2000 for a small group of people. The testimony happened during Nolan Richardson's discrimination lawsuit yesterday. Broyles said outside of court during a break in testimony that was the only time he had ever used such a slur. Broyles was being questioned by Richardson's lawyer, John Walker of Little Rock, when he recounted the incident. Broyles said he was repeating a question that somebody else had asked. University lawyer Phil Kaplan began questioning Broyles after Walker finished yesterday. Richardson filed a lawsuit after his 2002 firing, saying he was dismissed because he is black and outspoken. The university says Richardson was fired because he lost confidence in the program.
