(June 16, 2004) - (Prairie Grove-AP) -- A stock pond in Washington County is harboring an alligator. The reptile lives in a pond between Prairie Grove and the community of Lincoln, and apparently isn't eager for a change of scenery. The beast eluded four anglers from the state Game and Fish Commission for the second straight day yesterday. The creature has been living in the farm pond for about a year and a half. Landowner L.M. Madden says he's seen the alligator from time to time and noticed ducks or guinea fowl missing from the area. Once the 'gator is caught, officials say it will probably be moved to a wildlife area near Petit Jean in central Arkansas. Alligators are rare in northern Arkansas.
