JBU Moves Up in College Rankings
Siloam Springs, Ark. (August 20, 2004) — John Brown University has stepped up three places to rank eighth in the Southern Region of the Best Comprehensive Colleges-Bachelor’s by U.S. News & World Report’s 2005 America’s Best College Rankings. “JBU’s higher ranking reflects the collective efforts of its committed students, faculty, staff and alumni,” Dr. Charles Pollard, university president said. “We look forward to continuing to provide an excellent Christ-centered education at JBU.” The total score that each institution receives is based on the following: peer assessment (25%), retention (20%), faculty resources (20%), student selectivity (15%), financial resources (10%), graduation rate performance (5%), and alumni giving rate (5%). The rankings provide prospective students a comparison of schools based on these various pieces of data. “This year’s ranking affirms JBU’s strengths and academic quality,” Mr. Don Crandall, vice president of enrollment said. “Parents of prospective students continue to put stock in third-party endorsements when they are researching college options for their children. This endorsement confirms the quality education we deliver in Northwest Arkansas.” JBU’s ranking, has been steadily climbing over the past five years. JBU ranked eleventh in the Southern Region Comprehensive Colleges-Bachelor’s category last year and ranked thirteenth in 2002. “There is a tremendous amount of information that is reviewed in the ranking process,” Ms. Andrea Phillips, director of university communications said. “This year we saw a few key numbers shift to our benefit, especially our alumni giving percentage. We had more alumni give to the university this year than ever before! The alumni's confidence in JBU shown through their contributions is a significant statement to organizations like U.S. News & World Report.” John Brown University is a private Christian university, ranked eighth by U.S. News & World Report in the Southern Region. JBU enrolls more than 1,800 students from 42 states and 42 countries. JBU is a member of Arkansas’ Independent Colleges and Universities and the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities.
