JBU Women's Volleyball goes undefeated in the JBU Classic

Siloam Springs, Ark. (August 28, 2004) — The JBU Women’s Volleyball team continued their winning streak in the second day of JBU Classic competition. They faced Bacone College at 12:00 this afternoon and won in three games. Team leaders included Senior Meghann Wharton with 9 kills and 8 blocks, sophomore Rachel Melby with 5 aces and 15 assists, Sophomore Tati Silva with 10 kills, Sophomore Juliana Todescan with 22 assists, and Junior Christine Wells with 12 digs. The Golden Eagles faced a tough competitor, Bellevue College, at 2:00. Both teams were undefeated coming into the last game of the tournament. After losing the first game 16-30, JBU came back to win the next three games 30-9, 30-23, and 30-18. Serve receive was the deciding factor in the match; the Golden Eagles consistently took Bellevue out of their offense with powerful, well-placed serves. Team leaders included Senior Meghann Wharton with 7 kills and 6 blocks, senior Helen Gross with 12 kills and 13 digs, Junior Elisa Evans with 8 blocks, Junior Christine Wells with 5 aces and 19 digs, Sophomore Tati Silva with 15 kills, and Sophomore Juliana Todescan with 43 assists. The final results of the JBU Classic were Bacone in fifth place, Williams Baptist in fourth place, Taylor in third place, Bellevue in second place, and John Brown University in first place.
