Christine Wells shatters Career Digs Record

Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 27, 2004) — Christine Wells, of Red Oak, TX, broke the JBU Career Digs Record on Tuesday, against Southern Nazarene University. She posted her 1649th dig, already well over the previous record of 1639, held by Jairin Schrader (2000-2003). Christine, the Libero and one of the team captains, will set an unprecedented number of digs as she adds to her total throughout this season and into the next. Coach Robyn Gordon commented, “Christine has been a top contributor in our program since the day she stepped on campus her freshman year. She is the most consistent, dependable player that I have ever coached. Christine also excels in the classroom, holding a very high GPA, majoring in accounting. She has definitely been a big reason for our success." The Golden Eagles defeated Southern Nazarene University in five games (30-16, 24-30, 25-30, 30-15, 15-10). Team leaders included Junior Christine Wells with 40 digs, Sophomore Tatiane Silva with 17 kills, 13 digs, and 8 aces, Senior Meghann Wharton with 15 kills, 3 blocks, Senior Helen Gross with 10 kills, 2 blocks, and 13 digs, Junior Elisa Evans with 10 kills, 2 blocks, Sophomore Juliana Todescan with 11 kills, 49 assists, and 18 digs, and Freshman Taylor Young with 9 kills and 3 blocks. The team had a total of 72 kills, 108 digs, 16 aces, 94% serving, and 94% passing.
