Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 19, 2004) - The John Brown women’s basketball team came away with a 73-61 win against the College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcats Friday night in the first night of the Golden Eagle Classic and moved to 4-0 for the season.
The first half saw the teams trading baskets, with no team ever taking a decisive lead. The Lady Bobcats went into the locker room with a 33-28 halftime lead. The Bobcats started the second half off quick, taking a nine point lead two minutes in, their largest lead of the night. JBU stayed close, and finally were able to tie it up with 7:38 on the clock after a four straight points off a baseline jumper and then a steal and lay-up by junior Alicia Baer. From then on it was all JBU, as some key three pointers were made, and three steals for points by sophomore Nancy Pierre helped the Golden Eagles roll to a 73-61 win.
Leading scorers for the Golden Eagles were juniors Kendra McCormick with 16 and Lesli Fanning and Baer with 14. Fanning was 4/8 from three point land. Sophomore Ashley Wettengel had eight rebounds and Pierre had four steals to lead the team. For the Lady Bobcats, senior Katie Howard led scoring with 22 and junior Megan Curry was close behind with 16.
In the earlier game of the night, Oklahoma Baptist topped University of the Ozarks 86-52. Oklahoma Baptist will face College of the Ozarks at 1:00 Saturday and JBU and University of the Ozarks will face off at 3:00 p.m.
