Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 5, 2005) - The Lubbock Christian Lady Chaps traveled to Siloam Springs to take on the John Brown Golden Eagles (12-10, 4-7 SAC) Saturday afternoon. The very close contest ended with Lubbock edging out JBU, 60-62.
The teams traded baskets to start the game with neither team having a decisive lead until 7:00, when Lubbock went up by six. The Lady Chaps continued to build on the lead and went into halftime with a 24-34 lead. The Golden Eagles came out strong in the second half, cutting the lead to two in the first four minutes of play. JBU took the one-point lead on a three by junior Lesli Fanning with 11:16 on the clock. But Lubbock was able to get back on top with 3:37 left in the game and stayed there to win the game.
The Golden Eagles were led in scoring by sophomore Ashley Wettengel and junior Kendra McCormick, both getting 14 points. Junior Alicia Baer had six assists, and McCormick led in rebounds with nine. JBU shot 36% from the field with Lubbock shooting 43%. Free throws proved to be a key element with JBU only making 14 of 24 compared to Lubbock’s 19/20.
The women are home again Thursday facing Oklahoma Christian at 6:00 p.m.
