Families Flood Siloam for JBU Family Weekend

Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 10, 2005) — John Brown University’s annual Family Weekend will be held Friday, Feb. 18 through Saturday, Feb. 19. Parents and family members of JBU students are invited to visit campus and enjoy chapel, classes, meals, athletic events, a meet the president session, and a student talent and variety show. The weekend is hosted by the JBU office of alumni and parent relations. “We have great students at JBU and that has a lot to do with the caliber of the families from which they come,” said Jerry Rollene, director of alumni and parent relations. “The number of parents already registered to come to Family Weekend is a good indication of the depth of the support our students have from home. I suspect that, if all the family members who wanted to come visit their son or daughter did, we wouldn’t have enough room for everyone.” Approximately 500 family members and other visitors are expected to attend. The impact of these guests goes beyond the JBU campus and extends into the community, as families seek accommodation and dining opportunities. “JBU definitely provides a boom for our business,” said a local hotel worker. Feature events for the weekend include a special chapel with President Pollard speaking on Friday at 11:00 a.m. Dr. and Mrs. Pollard will host a meet the president session Friday from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. Golden Eagles intercollegiate basketball games take place Saturday afternoon with the women playing at 1:00 p.m. and the men playing at 3:00 p.m. against St. Gregory’s University. The Student Talent and Variety Show will be held Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Registration for the weekend will begin Friday, Feb. 18, at 8:00 a.m. in Walker Student Center. Registration continues throughout the day until 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Tickets for all events will be available at registration.
