Women Get Win on Parent’s Weekend

Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 19, 2005) — The John Brown University women’s basketball team (14-12, 6-9 SAC) celebrated Parent’s Weekend with a win over the visiting St. Gregory’s Lady Cavaliers Saturday afternoon. The women came back from a 12 point deficit to get the 58-50 win.

The teams played an even game for the first half, ending the half tied at 25. The Lady Cavaliers opened the second half with a 19-7 run, going up by 12 at the 10 minute mark. The Golden Eagles inched their way back, making their free throws down the stretch. JBU tied the game at 48-48 with 2:45 on the clock when Kendra McCormick was fouled on a made putback. McCormick drained her free throw to give JBU the lead. It was all Golden Eagles from then on, as they pulled to an eight point lead to end the game.

Ashley Wettengel led the scoring for JBU with 19. Jordyn West and Kendra McCormick both contributed 11. Free throws were the story for JBU as they made 17 of 23 for the game.
