Men Win Fourth Straight

CHICKASHA, OK (February 24, 2005) — The Golden Eagles won their fourth straight SAC game on Thursday night, defeating the USAO Drovers 76-67. It marks just the second road win in conference play for JBU. The win improves the Golden Eagles to 18-10 overall and 9-8 in conference play.

The Golden Eagles came out aggressive, scoring 36 in the first half and taking a 2-point lead to the break.

The Drovers came out strong in the second half going up 43-41 three minutes into the period. However JBU responded with a 30-10 run, opening up an 18-point lead with 5:17 to go. However, the Drovers would not go away. They responded by cutting the JBU advantage in half, but were never able to get closer then 9.

Golden Eagles leading scorer Brandon Cole struggled, scoring a season low 4 points on 1-9 shooting. Freshman Steve Briggs helped pick up the slack with a team high 16, senior Rayjavick DeGracia chipped in 15, and senior Pat Smits had 13 for JBU.

USAO’s leading scorer was also held off his game. Wayne Gibson averaging 20 points a contest scored just 11 points. Kevin Thames led the Drovers with 16 points off the bench, and guard Avery Stevenson had 12 for USAO.

The Golden Eagles next play Saturday at 4 p.m. at Northwestern Oklahoma State University.
