Siloam Springs, Ark. (April 27, 2005) - Sophomore Becky Pruitt, a middle school education major, was awarded John Brown University’s annual Shirley Forbes Thomas Scholarship for international studies. The $500 award will be applied toward Pruitt’s expenses to attend JBU’s German Studies Program, in Wurzburg, Germany, May 8-June 4. Pruitt, along with other students on the trip, will have the opportunity to earn six hours of college credit during their time in Germany. Dr. Robbie Castleman and Dr. Rick Ostrander are the faculty sponsors for the trip. Scholarship applicants were evaluated based on academic achievement, Christian character, financial need, and quality of faculty recommendation. “I'm really thankful for being awarded the scholarship,” Pruitt said. “I'm looking forward to having new experiences in another culture.” Pruitt’s parents are Mark and Janice Pruitt of Stillwater, Okla. John Brown University is a private Christian university, ranked eighth by U.S. News & World Report in the Southern Region. JBU enrolls more than 1,900 students from 43 states and 39 countries.
