Speaker and Author Comes to JBU
Siloam Springs, Ark. (August 1, 2005) — The Center for Relationship Enrichment at John Brown University is proud to announce that Dr. Greg Smalley is joining the staff as the Director of Church Relationship Ministries. A significant function of this position is to implement partnerships between CRE and churches to help them develop stronger relationships with their congregations, leading people to have healthier life-relationships. Dr. Smalley’s immediate responsibilities include finalizing the church relationship assessment tool that will facilitate congregations in understanding the state of relationships within their body. The assessment will help the church staff create a plan to encourage and nurture healthy relationships among members of their congregation. In the fall, Dr. Smalley will teach an undergraduate course on marriage and family relationships at JBU. The opportunity to work with Dr. Gary J. Oliver, director of the CRE combined with his own passion to enrich leaders and people in the church, drew Dr. Smalley to join the CRE. “I feel called to help enrich, train and equip pastors, lay people, and other leaders within the church who want to help strengthen families and build healthy relationships,” Dr. Smalley said. “Greg is uniquely qualified for this position because of his passion, knowledge, experience and heart for ministry,” Dr. Oliver said. “Blended with the gift-mix of the current staff, Greg will strengthen an already vital ministry.” Dr. Smalley also brings extensive experience as a respected national speaker and writer. Most recently, Dr. Smalley served as president of Smalley Marriage Institute, a marriage and family ministry located near Branson, Mo. There he served on staff with his father, Dr. Gary Smalley, and his brother, Michael. Currently, Dr. Smalley sits on the board of the National Institute of Marriage and Covenant Marriage as well as several other ministry boards. Dr. Smalley earned a doctorate in clinical psychology from Rosemead School of Psychology at Biola University. He also holds two master’s degrees, one in counseling psychology from Denver Seminary and one in clinical psychology from Rosemead School of Psychology. He has written many books on teens, marriage, family, parenting and much more. He is the author of Bound By Honor (Focus on the Family, 1998), Winning Your Wife Back and Winning Your Husband Back (Thomas Nelson, 1999), The Men’s Relationship Toolbox (Tyndale House, 2003), The DNA of Relationships (Tyndale, 2004), and The Marriage You’ve Always Dreamed Of (Tyndale, 2005). In addition, Dr. Smalley is a husband to Erin, and a dad to three children, Taylor, Maddy and Garrison.
