JBU Sweeps St. Louis Tourney
Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 2, 2005) — The John Brown Golden Eagles swept another tournament this weekend, going 4-0 at the Lindenwood Invitational in St. Charles, Mo., near St. Louis. The Golden Eagles (18-4) have now won ten in a row, all on the road.
On Friday, John Brown defeated Central Methodist (Mo.) 3-0 and host team Lindenwood 3-2. In that match, the Golden Eagles won the first two games 31-29 and 30-25 before surrendering the third and fourth games 23-30 and 20-30. They found a way to halt the Lions’ momentum in the fifth game, pulling out a 15-13 win to take the match. Saturday’s games saw the Golden Eagles sweep both Culver-Stockton (Mo.) and MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) 3-0.
Tati Silva led John Brown in kills with 36 for the weekend. Elisa Mendieta added 33, and Samantha Rogoff was close behind with 32. Mendieta also made 15 blocks. Juliana Todescan contributed 134 assists, 10 aces, and 10 blocks. Christine Wells made 81 digs to go along with 6 aces.
Head coach Robyn Gordon commented, “Our defense—both digging and blocking—really kept us going. Our offensive power has been there, but it was great to see our defense take it to another level. I couldn’t be more proud of this team, going 10-0 on our two-week road trip.”
John Brown will look to extend its win streak Friday when it hosts College of the Southwest (N.M.) at 7:00.
