JBU Outpaces Lyon
Siloam Springs, Ark. (December 1, 2005) — The John Brown Golden Eagles played their best offensive game of the season in defeating Lyon (Ark.) 66-45 Thursday night in Siloam Springs. The Golden Eagles shot 49% from the field, and their defense picked up whatever slack was left, scoring 28 points off of 22 Lyon turnovers and holding the Lyon offense to 26% shooting.
Kendra McCormick shot 9-of-12 from the field to score 19 points for John Brown. Lesli Fanning hit three treys to score 11, and Nancy Pierre scored 8 points while pulling down 8 rebounds. Alicia Baer and Ashley Wettengel each contributed 5 assists, with Wettengel also adding 7 points. For Lyon, Maribeth Waters led the way with 18 points, and Prescilla Mathias followed with 11.
John Brown (5-3) controlled the game from the outset, never trailing. The score was tied just twice in the first four minutes of the game. Leading 26-22 at halftime, the Golden Eagles came out strong for the second half, quickly building their first double-digit lead at the 16:41 mark on a basket by McCormick that made the score 38-27. They led by as many as 25 after freshman forward Casey Shivers made two free throws with 3:41 remaining in the game.
John Brown hosts William Jewell (Mo.) on Saturday at 2:00.
